Abstract  The litchi fruit borer, Conopomorpha sinensis, is an important pest of fruit trees widely distributed in the Lingnan area of China, Southeast Asia, India and Nepal. It feeds on fruits, shoots and flowers of the host plants litchi and longan as a borer pest, and has become a major and destructive insect pest to litchi and longan industry due to its boring habit, difficulty for its control, inappropriate control measures and abuse of chemical pesticides. In this article we reviewed the research progress in C. sinensis in recent 30 years, mainly focusing on the taxonomy, biological characteristics, antennal sensilla and olfactory mechanisms, artificial rearing techniques, and forecast and control methods. In addition, the controversial problems in the research of C. sinensis were proposed, and the prospects for the future studies were also provided.
