Abstract: Vitellin was purified from the eggs of the bush tick, Haemaphysalis longicornis Neumann by gel filtration and ion exchange chromatography, and its property was also analyzed. PAGE and SDS-PAGE results showed that only one kind of vitellin existed in H. ongicornis. The vitellin composed of eight subunits and their molecular weights were 112, 103, 80, 78, 71, 68, 62 and 52 kD respectively. The vitellin could be stained by Sudan black B and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS), which meant that it was an hemoglycolipoprotein.
