Instructions to Authors
Acta Entomologica Sinica (Monthly, about 110 pp. for each issue), launched in Sept. 1950, is a peer-reviewed Chinese and English bilingual journal, co-sponsored by the Institute of Zoology, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Entomological Society of China. It publishes original papers as well as review articles and short communications that cover all aspects of entomological sciences. It is indexed and abstracted in Abstracts of Entomology, Abstract Journal, Chemical Abstracts, CAB Database, ISPI Pest Directory Database, Entomological Abstracts and Zoological Records. Over fifty years, some of the most well-known achievements in entomological sciences in China, such as the physiological and ecological mechanisms related to the occurrence and integrated control of the Oriental migratory locust Locusta migratoria manilensis, the migrations of the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens Stal, and the artificial diet and rearing of Trichogrammma spp., were first reported through this journal and got well cited. The most influential scholars in various fields of entomological research in China and three prestigious overseas entomologists make up the present editorial board.
Aims and ScopeThe aims of the Acta Entomologica Sinica are to report the most recent achievements and advances in entomological sciences, and to promote academic exchanges among entomological researchers in China and abroad. The journal publishes original research papers, review articles and short communications concerning various aspects of entomology and various groups of insects and mites, and accepts submissions in Chinese or English. Currently, original research papers are organized in four regular subsections, i.e., Physiology and Biochemistry, Toxicology and Resistance, Ecology and Pest Management, and Evolution and Systematics, and irregular subsections as necessary, such as Pathology and Medical Insects, for each issue. In Systematics subsection, papers only concerning new records or new taxa will normally not be accepted. GenBank Accession Number should be provided when a gene sequence is newly reported.
Page FormatThe Journal is printed in a two-column format (column width of 80 mm) with a text area of 170 × 240 mm.
Title pageThe title page of manuscript should contain title, author name, addresses of university or institution of affiliation, a running title (40 characters or less), and the name and address of the author for correspondence including telephone number, fax number and e-mail address. Authors with different affiliations should be identified by the use of the same number of superscript on name before affiliation.
AbstractEach paper must commence with an accurate, informative abstract in one paragraph, which is complete in itself and intelligible without reference to text or figures. It should include four elements: aims, key methods, main results and main conclusions. A list of 5-8 key words should accompany the abstract.
TextPapers should be typed, in single column format on one side only, with double line spacing and ample margins (at least 1.5 cm) on each side and with no underlining or bold in text except for scientific names. Draft quality print from a word-processor is not acceptable. Standard abbreviations (e.g. fig. and figs.) and metric units must be used.
Electronic fileUpon acceptance, authors are requested to submit an electronic file of the final version of their paper through e-mail or a diskette along with the final manuscript to the editorial office. Microsoft word format is preferred for text. For figures or photos, electronic files in common graph formats (e.g. tif, gif or jpg) are acceptable.
TablesTables should be reduced to the simplest form and present only essential data. They should be submitted on separate sheets at the end of the article and must fit into single column, full width or landscape (if absolutely necessary) format. Captions should be typed on a separate sheet. The use of vertical rules should be avoided.
IllustrationsCopies of artwork only should be submitted. The original illustrations should accompany the paper after acceptance and revision. Captions should be typed on a separate sheet.
Line drawingsThese should be sharp and clear, black ink on white paper to about 1.5 times the intended final size. The lettering and lines should be of sufficient thickness and quality to stand reduction. Computer generated figures and graphs should not contain grey tints or complicated hatching.
PhotographsBlack and white or color photographs are acceptable where they are a real contribution to the text. They should be prints of good quality at the intended final size with any required lettering or numbering inserted by the author.
Voucher Specimens ReferencesThe deposition of voucher specimens should be indicated where appropriate.
