Abstract: The ommatidial surface ultrastructure of ommateum of 6 butterfly species were observed with scanning electronic microscope. The ommatidial surface was revealed to be covered evenly with small round convex particles. A special concavo-convex structure formed by striae was situated in the middle of ommatidium. These structures were different obviously and characteristic among the butterfly families.
