THE FAUNAL COMPOSITION AND THE FEEDING HABITS OF SCARABS IN XINJIANG (COLEOPTERA: SCARABAEOIDEA)

Abstract: This paper deals with 154 species of Scarabaeoidea belonging to 2 families,13 subfamilies and 47 genera in Xinjiang. The faunal composition includes the Central Asian, Centrical Centro-Asian, Europe-Sibirica, Mediterranean, Endemic, Palaearctic and Holarctic ingredients. Among which about 48.5% (74 species) belong to the Central Asian ingredient With the analysis of the faunal composition of the Scarabaeiodea in Xinjiang, a scheme of the geographical division of the Xinjiang insects has been proposed. The feeding habits of imagines include the coprophagous, phytophagous, saprophagous, horn-eating, corpse-eating and fasting types, among which about 49% (75 species) belong to the coprophagous type;about 36% (55 species) phytophagous type
